Unigue baby boys names
Unique baby boy names are quite chic these days. One that quickly comes to mind is Kingston, the name of the son of singer Gwen Stefani…and of course, that of her other child, Zuma Nesta Rock. It doesn’t get any more unique than that, does it?
Unique baby names might be making front-page headlines now, but they have actually been popular for years. Do you remember Frank Zappa’s kids? They were Dweezil, Ahmet, Diva and…wait for it…Moon Unit! Needless to say, Frank Zappa took quite a bit of heat for naming his kids in such a way. But the trend toward unique baby names has enjoyed a long run of popularity, and still continues today.
It seems that many new parents are tired of the same old names, so they are choosing names for their children that will make them stand out. Unusual baby names don’t have to be so odd that they sentence your child to endless teasing by other kids once they reach school age. You can choose unusual spellings of names, or names that are inherently strange simply because they tend to be the name of something else – like naming a baby boy Dallas, perhaps, or Picasso, in the hopes of the young man growing up to become a star in the art world.
There are plenty of ways to find unique baby boy names. Start by looking around your immediate environment – your own home. Is there something that might lend itself well to the name of a child? I once knew a woman who named her son Westinghouse – I kid you not. She liked the regal sound of the company’s name, so she called her child that same thing. I now know him as “West”, which is actually a lovely name, come to think of it.
Places are always a good bet for baby boy names. You’ve got Austin, Phoenix, Montgomery and Washington. You can always choose Tennessee or Wyoming. You can go the water route and name him Rio, Delaware, or my personal favorite, the simple yet catchy “River”.
Another idea is to name your son after a character in a film or book. A baby boy named Bond has the ultimate advantage during those playground games of cops-and-robbers. What about a child named Fitzgerald, or Steinbeck, or even Hemingway? The names sound masculine and imposing, and they are representative of famous people as well. Your child would not only have something to aspire to, but something to brag about to his friends!
Whatever your choice of unique baby boy names, make certain that you remember to consider the initials the final name choice will make – it doesn’t do much good to give your child a regal name if the initials spell out something that may subject him to ridicule later in life. Be careful of the spelling so that it’s not too difficult for people to learn, and make sure the name you select is one your child can easily grow into and be comfortable with.
Have fun choosing a beautiful name for your son, and enjoy browsing unique baby boy names until you find one that is right for you – and him!
